The Friends of the James Weldon Johnson Community Library (www.fojbl.org) will present Spelling, Geography, and Math Bees this summer at the Johnson Community Library, 1059 18th Avenue South. All three “Bees” are on Wednesdays and will start promptly at 6:15 p.m.
The Spelling Bee will be held on June 24, the Math Bee on July 15, and the Geography Bee on August 12. Study sheets are available at the library or online at the St. Petersburg Library System’s website, www.splibraries.org for both the Spelling Bee and the Geography Bee. To prepare for the Math Bee, students can practice solving problems online at www.VMATHLIVE.com .
This year, tutoring sessions will be offered on Wednesday, June 17; Thursday, June 18; Friday, June 19; Monday, June 22; and Tuesday, June 23– each from 3 to 4:30 p.m. in the Johnson Library Community Room. Tutor dates and times for the Math and Geography Bees will be announced.
Children will compete in one of three groups depending on the grade they will be entering in the Fall. Group I: kindergarten through second grade; Group II: third-fourth grade; or Group III: fifth-sixth grade. The top three finishers in each group will win prizes.
Studying for the Bees helps students retain academic skills over the Summer. The competitions also provide a fun way to gain public speaking experience and develop sportsmanship. Families are invited to attend and cheer on the contestants. Please call the Johnson Community Library at 727 893-7213 to pre-register.
